Roof space is limited, but the Girard GG750 Solar Awning gives you a way to add meaningful solar generation (480 to 960 watts) without sacrificing room for roof fans, AC units, racks, storage, or rooftop access. Built on the black Girard GG750 cassette and paired with Apollo solar fabric, it combines shade and solar production in one legless 12V awning system. This is a strong fit for vans first, but also works for RVs, trailers, and some building applications.
It is especially compelling for larger vans or RVs where the roof is already crowded or maxed out with solar, vents, and roof penetrations. On bigger platforms, customers can maximize the roof and add one or even two solar awnings to dramatically increase total available solar capacity. If you are trying to reduce generator use, shore power dependence, or roof congestion, this awning creates a new solar surface on the side of the vehicle instead of competing for roof real estate.
This solar awning is heavier than a traditional side awning and requires adequate mounting support. Always verify structure, bracket compatibility, available mounting space, and installation method before ordering or replacing an existing awning. Since it is made to order, there are no returns.
These recommendations are for 12V battery systems. Final charge controller sizing should always be confirmed against the complete system design, battery voltage, cable run, and solar integration plan.
Most vans run out of easy roof space fast. Roof fans, air conditioners, storage boxes, racks, antennas, and walking paths all compete with fixed solar panels. A solar awning gives you another large solar surface without forcing more compromises on the roof.
For many builds, that means you can keep your roof fan, rooftop AC, storage or rack space, and still add serious solar wattage. On large vans like Sprinter 170 EXT, Transit 148 EXT, and ProMaster 159 Extended, this can be a powerful way to expand total solar capacity beyond what roof-only systems usually allow (up to 3175 watts ON A VAN when paired with our roof racks).
This awning is best treated as a solar source that feeds your existing power system, not as a standalone plug-and-play solar kit. It is a power-generating awning that must be integrated into an existing electrical system through an appropriate solar charge controller. Many customers will add it to an existing Victron-based system, but final controller choice and wiring layout should be based on awning size and the rest of the system design.
In many cases, this can replace an existing awning, but customers should verify mounting compatibility, structural support, available space, motor side, wiring path, and electrical integration before ordering. Because this unit is heavier than a standard side awning, support requirements matter.
A solar awning gives you shade and solar generation in one product, helping you add power without taking up valuable roof space.
Depending on size, the GG750 Solar Awning produces from 480W up to 960W.
This awning connects to your electrical system through an appropriate solar charge controller. Many customers add it to an existing system, but final controller choice and wiring layout should match the awning size and overall system design.
Recommended Victron controller sizing depends on awning size. See the controller table above for suggested MPPT models for 12V battery systems.
In many cases, yes, but you should verify mounting compatibility, structural support, available space, motor side, wiring path, and electrical integration before ordering.
Yes. This solar awning is heavier than a traditional side awning, so proper support and installation planning are important.
Yes. Standard mounting brackets are included.
Standard configuration is a 12V right-hand motor. Left-hand motor is available by request; contact us before ordering.

Orion Van Gear offered the best pricing on my two new MaxxAir MaxxFan Deluxe fans and they arrive SO fast. The install on our our 5th wheel went exceptionally well. Thank you for the great experiences.
Purchased a Stealth+ Roof Rack for my Ram Promaster Low Roof (one of the few options available for the Low Roof Promaster) along with a few other items. We are very pleased with the engineering, fitment and appearance of the rack. We hit a couple of install bumps along the way but were blown away by the rapid response of the Orion Team anytime we reached out to them. We will definitely be working with them again as our van build progresses.
The Orion roof rack I got from Orion for my transit mid roof 148 was a piece of cake to install. I was delighted with how easily it went together! My older son was unable to help that day but even so I got it done in about 4.5 hours. The Instructions are clear, the materials are all clearly labeled. There was no grinding, or tweaking of any kind needed! Can’t wait to get the roof panels!
Pictures look great!
22 day delivery time. I guess it happens often with USPS going thru L.A. Update. Issues with this order and delivery have been resolved. Thanks for the quick response.
I mounted the lights and I was very pleased.
